Professor Paul O. Briones began his Science teaching career at Pecos High School in 1978 after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Life Science from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in 1976. In the 33 years as an educator, Professor Paul has taught Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Pre-AP Physics, Pre-AP Chemistry, Integrated Physics and Chemistry, TAKS Prep, Science, and ESL Science at the Junior College, High school, and Middle School levels in West, North, and South Texas. In 1992, he was inspired by his Science education advisor in the Master's program at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin to write original Pop music for his Science classes. Using the Multiple Intelligence Theory as the basis for his work, Paul began using audio, visual and hands on teaching methods to experience success in engaging students on the various subjects he taught. In 1994, Professor Paul obtained a Master of Science in Life Science (Biology) with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. His Master's thesis, "Survey of Heavy Metal (Chromium and Lead) in Water, Mud, and Fish Deposits in the Rio Grande from El Paso to Brownsville" was published soon after his five-year study was completed. Professor Paul has presented his Science music/program at several middle schools and conventions since 1993. In 2006, he served as a member of Policy Research Initiatives in Science Education at Texas A&M, a program funded by the National Science Foundation. He has served as a Committee Member of the Texas Education Agency-Analyzed Field Test Items for TAKS Test committee, and has been a presenter at the Conference for the Advancement of Science Teachers (CAST), Texas Association of Bilingual Educators Conference, West Texas Educators Conference, and the National Association of Biology Teachers Convention. Professor Paul has been named to Who's Who Among America's Teachers and has received multiple songwriting awards. He continues to stay abreast of advances in science education and is partnering with the Carrasco Media Group in the development and marketing of Virtual Science University's unique science videos, all with the goal of helping students learn Science.
