"Brother Bones" is now here? Are you ready? --September 14, 2008
I got so used to having "Brother Bones" as my helper on my shows. He was always helping out on my songs, especially "Tough It"and in his own song , "Brother Bones". The other day I was singing "Tough It" in class and a students goes "Where Is Brother Bones?" I responded he must be in "Brownsville, Houston, or San Antonio". He will eventually make his way to West Texas. Guess what? He arrived today.
He is now asking about Cell structure and specificity? So today, "Brother Bones " is asking, "What are the organelles of an animal cell? What are Osteoblasts and Osteoclasts? The First Student that can correctly send me the correct answer via e-mail will be the one who will get a Virtual Science University T-Shirt with my autograph. You have to give "Brother Bones" at least ten organelles found in animal cells defined and answer what are Osteoblasts and Osteoclasts. Be the first today, to get this award. "Brother Bones" will have a question like this at the beginning of every week. Have a Great Week!

Help Is On The Way--March 12, 2009
Those of you who are struggling with trying to get the right touch on the TAKS Review, help is on the way. Here at the Professor Paul 24-7 we've got the TEKS in a format that reinforces student learning and success. All of my lectures cover the Biology TEKS using strategies that involve the Visual and Auditory Inputs. I will be starting on March 16th at Kermit High School, my High School Alma Mateur. I will try to have a Web Cam installed in my classroom with district permission. This way those of you who are having trouble engaging students on the visual, auditory, and kinesthic inputs can follow me along as I teach a REAL Classroom. I will going over all 24 of my Biology Lectures on the Professor Paul Show. I will also do a TAKS Review. For those of you who want to see a TAKS Review, e-mail our website and ask Laurie for it. She will provide a download mechanism for it. I hope all of you have a Great Spring Break and let me know how you are doing.
TAKE CARE! Professor Paul O. Briones

TAKS Time Is Here! Here is a Strategy for Review-March 4, 2009
It is time for TAKS Review. For TAKS Objectives 1, 2, and 3, you are covered with the Professor Paul Show. Here is one way, you can review.
1.) Have all your students take the Pre-Tests for Lectures 1-24.
2.) If a score of 85 is obtained, go to the next Lecture, otherwise, have your students listen to the entire lecture and take it very slow. Have them Print out their lecture slides and notes and highlight everything that Professor Paul emphasizes.
3.) Have your students take the Post Test. Now, with the songs and the lecture notes fresh on your student's minds, they should be able to take the Post Test and do well on it.
4.) Between now and April 1, have your students review one lecture at a time daily until all 25 lectures are covered.
5.) It would be wise to have your students take the Post Tests again between April 1 and April 20th. By having your students review the lectures twice, they should be okay with the content that is required.
6.) Play special emphasis on the lectures on Cell Structure, Osmosis and Cell Permiablility, Animal and Plant Cells, Mitosis, Meiosis, DNA and RNA, Protein Synthesis, and Mendelian Genetics.
7.) Have them take a Released TAKS Test from the previous year. That practice test will bring to light what objectives each individual student needs to review.
Good Luck and Jam Out the TAKS Test! The songs attached to the lectures will help every student master the objective. Stick to this format, and you will have success with your students.

Beyond TAKS and Into Medical or Allied Health Careers-August 25, 2009

Back in February , I received a complement from a student taking Anatomy & Physiology on the college level. She said that My Brother Bones Song was so good that it helped her learn the bones better than the way she had in her lecture class. She commented, "Instructors don't take the time to point to the bones and name them the way you do...it is so much fun to listen and sing the "Brother Bones" Song with you. My friend went out of my house singing "Who Is Brother Bones" and the neighbors shouted "Who taught you that song?" I thought, "That is so cool! Mr. B is a Songwriter-Entertainer and not just a Science Teacher!" Today, another ex-student of mine in North Texas uttered the same commment. He is studying Radiology and of course went to my lecture on the Skeletal System dealing with Brother Bones. This is where we need to keep the instruction and not get so hi-strung with TAKS. If you are teaching the TEKS, you will cover TAKS and go beyond and get your kids excited about joining the medical field and other Allied Health Fields. Play my song "Tough It" over and over and get them to sing it so that will stay with them and sooner or later they will start thinking and believing that they can become Doctors or join the Medical Health Field.
To keep them excited and organized make them keep a journal and make them put all of their notes and assignments in their journals. You keep the journals other than when Major Tests come around. This way you force them to stay organized. More to come and have a Great Day!

Science Has Not Changed, The Way You Learn It Has!..February 14, 2009
Science has not changed, the way you learn it has. In today's world, young people are constantly on their ipods, lab tops, and black berrys constantly communicating on the Inter-Net. For this reason, I've taken the medium of the Inter-Net, and have presented my Biology Lectures covering Teks for Biology I here in the state of Texas. My background as a Science Teacher for 28 years and my experience in the Music Industry for the last 42 years have allowed me to come out of the woodwork and write new Science Music that will make students dance, learn, and sing my Science Songs, the way people did with the Motown Sound back in the 60's and 70's...for more listen to my songs "Pump It Up" on the Heart, Lecture 22 and "Top To Bottom" on the Digestive System Lecture 23 and you will know what I mean! I am ready to deliver them live and in Concert soon!

Who Is Doing End of Course Exam?--December 17, 2008
We finished our 20th Lecture Show on Flowering Plants. It was so amazing...so much fun and so full of Creative Energy. Okay, now I want to throw a Serious Question on you kind of the way they do on the News Channels. "Who is doing End of Course Exam in Biology for this year?" I understand from some friends that I have in Austin, that this year is optional. I guess in 2011, we are heading towards End of Course Exam. For us here at the Professor Paul Show, this is Critical and Important, because we want to be in a position to help as many Virtual Students as possible, help Parents, help Administrators...We want to "TAKE THE STRESS OUT OF TAKS!"....the way my pencils say...those of you who got a Pencil from our booth at CAST know what I am talking about. By the way, I am also doing a lot of new Music. Soon, our Staff will be working on producing a high quality Audio CD of all the Science Songs I've written and their tracks...It will also include some of the Instrumental Music I do at the beginning of the shows....I am Excited...Talk to You Later!
Keep the Conversation Going...GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU, AMERICA, PARENTS, TEACHERS, VIRTUAL Students, and ADMINISTRATORS.
Very Gratefully Yours,
Professor Paul O. Briones

Viruses & Bacteria--December 8, 2008
This is Professor Paul. Today, we finished our 19th Lecture on the Relationship of Viruses and Bacteria to Disease Mechanisms. We had a dynamic show with actual Surgery Footage in the background during my interview with Doctor Carrasco. I am also doing alot of new original Music Jams with every new show. Every Lecture now has some new music with it. I remember when I was actually teaching in the classroom, I would redirect every 10 minutes. Sometimes singing a Science Song or just actually jamming for a couple of minutes just to break the ice and to re-direct. I know many of you are still finishing up the first Semester of Biology. This is like the twitter where you can come and post your thoughts about Biology. You all take care and have a great week. Let me know how all of you are doing. I even welcome conversion with Virtual Students. Let me know your concerns and thoughts.
Best Wishes and continue the conversation!
Professor Paul O. Briones
